I think reducing maintenance is far more valuable than 1 gold per colony, especially for large empires with lots of colonies which is what the civic is probably for. Though I don't play those civs very often, maybe it is less useful for civs that colonise lots of different islands instead of...
Update on this: it looks like it sometimes happens right after settling a city in the new city. In one save, I was sending my settler to the wrong place but if you settle in place or on the spot marked with the alt x it should give the city a free specialist, while in the other one settling...
I kinda thought Judaism was impossible without like cheesing by stopping Jerusalem from spawning or something, but after trying for an earlier time on Orthodoxy (didn't work out), I almost accidentally founded it lol. So this was my actual attempt upon realising it was possible :P
My strategy...
Actually going for buddhism asap was kinda fun too. I think babylonia might just be the play for basically all the really early religions, could probably get confucianism and taoism with a similar strategy as well. This one also could definitely be optimized a bit, I forgot that founding...
Saw someone point out the AI founding christianity in like 500 BC and thought it was a fun idea to see how early a religion could be founded! Here was mine for the same one, I don't think it was nearly as good as it could have been what with negative events and not realising i could reload...
How does multilateralism's production for trade routes actually work? Is it based on how much the trade route is worth, before or after modifiers? And does it scale linearly? I would guess the hammers are affected by production bonuses too right?
almost certainly never would come up in a game but thought i should point out one random tile in western alaska is listed as "all cities in canada" for one of the UHV goals :P
Won as the celts by razing all of rome's cities in italy before they managed to take my last one in the core and then getting peace, then checked the update log to see what I've missed...
... Now I'm wondering if I should try it again since that cheese would probably no longer work :P
Was still...
Has anyone won the first Java UHV on the 600 AD start? I've tried on Marathon and Normal, the fastest strategy I've been able to come up with for building Borobudur is to run Monasticism, whip a forge in the capital, build a Candi ASAP and then a theatre while running all specialists as soon as...
I did it on Marathon, though I might have largely gotten lucky as both Arabia and China managed to survive quite a while. You really have to pretty much sell most of your resources and still end up paying extra gold to do it though and buy from literally anyone who will sell you anything lol. I...
Won the Swahili UHV! (Regent, Marathon, 600 AD start)
In terms of balance, I would say it might lean on the easier side, but not too easy, since it only took one try, but it was a very close one try as I only discovered cartography on the very last turn of UHV 2 (discover 35% of the world's...
Played the Hittite UHV! Quite fun overall with a decent challenge but not super difficult, the iron and copper goal being a mix of conquest and settling, and then the hardest part of the peace tribute goal actually being getting to contract on time, so you have to balance all that production and...
