What are zones of control and how do they affect the game?

Thanks for all the advice. I got the game from someone else and so I have no manual for it. I have yet to complete my throne room, however all the advice that you have given me has done wonders for my final score.

Thanks for the advice. I play almost everyday, so i am sure that one day i will succeed.

I have been playing civ II for about one year now and i can't seem to complete my throne room. I can win the game, but i just can't get a throne room. Maybe there are some tips that you can give me. Thanks
