Spartan, here's my responses to your comments.
1. Regarding the connectivity problems, sometimes the ladder is down because I'm rebooting the server or because I've been changing some code. It'll happen from time to time when I make bug fixes and changes. When there is a major change...
I have changed the minimum requirement for username length to 4 characters. Anybody who registered before this change can have their username changed to something shorter if they wish. Email me at pleaseannoyme@hotmail.com and I will change your username to what you like.

Actually, I just set the minimum username length arbitrarily. I felt that 7 characters was a good length for a username.
Please help spread the word about the ladder. I have written to Thunderfall in hopes that he might post a news item on the front page of CivFanatics about the ladder, but...
The SP ladder is done and ready for initial use. Please read the FAQ closely before signing up for an account. I've tried to debug/QA test the site as much as possible, but I'm sure that some bugs still exist. Please post errors/bugs in this forum or on this thread so I can fix them.
There...
The SP ladder is pretty much finished. I've tested the majority of the site and everything seems to be working ok. Last week I started adding small features, little things that seemed like they would be a nice addition. Last weekend I was out of town so I didn't get much time to work on the...
Thanks for the kind words. I will hold off on the launch until all bugs and outstanding issues are resolved. I'm going through all my code right now in an effort to eliminate all bugs I find. This is a long and laborious process (and something I don't particularly enjoy, but it must be done)...
Even working around the clock, I think I will need one more day to get the SP ladder out. Thus, the launch date will be pushed back one day to Sunday. I am still finishing up some of the code as well as the help pages and documentation. There have also been some new unforseen problems that...
I'm probably going to start the ladder sometime next Friday or Saturday. There's still some work to be done and I've been a bit busy with other things. But Friday/Saturday looks like a good bet.

Yes, I agree that giving too many points for expert vs rookie games would be a bad thing. I think we should come to a workable solution where the point gain is enough to make playing newbies at least a semi-attractive proposition for experts (in order to allow newbies to learn and play better...
Another thing I wanted to add is that, as of now, perhaps 7-10 more days of development will be required for the SP ladder. I am debating whether or not to release the SP ladder separate (first) before the Tribes ladder is finished. I am leaning towards doing that right now.
Trajan
I know this was a long time coming and that some of you are probably wait for this, so it's time for an update on ladder development:
I would say that the SP ladder is about 60% complete at this stage.

Tribes will also use the same system for ranking and points calculation as the single player ladder (See 39th post in single player ladder thread). We will treat individual tribes as single players and thus, a tribe match would be like a two player Civ 2 game.

Actually, if you studied the formula closer, you would see that there is NO WAY you can LOSE points in a victory. The least amount of points you could gain is 0. How did you come to the conclusion that this system is just like GameLeague's? I have all the equations spelled out. You can do...
After considerable thinking, I am changing the scoring formula. The model I will now use is now loosely based upon the system used by the FIDE (World Chess Federation). This model uses what is known as the "ELO" system, which is based upon the premise of a Percentage Expectancy Curve...
