A small detail: Running an un-updated version of the game - straight from the CD - works fine without crashes. It's specifically the update that does not work.

Sounds like you need to either find a CD cleaner, complete with the white goo to fill in scratches, or buy another copy of the game. If you don't have the equipment yourself, your local library might have one that you can use. Otherwise, I suppose that's a good lesson on the value of not...

All righty. I reinstalled, then upgraded to 3.19 using a download instead of the in-game option. It still crashed after a number of turns. :mad:

I checked the obvious things: my graphics card driver is up to date, and my directx9c is good. I both patched the game today and installed the graphics card driver - I had been using the default Windows driver. I have the ATI Radeon HD 5700. Incidentally, I did NOT have this problem...
