Reading this board, most complaints about Civ boil down to “they should have done y, not x, as y is more in line with my vision or with something in another game I liked”
Not, “is x fun?” Or “could x be improved”
I think reducing base adjacency and then boosting it with cards would be a more complex but also more fun/reasonable way to handle districts like campuses.
Campuses should be able to be boosted by cards if they’re near, for example, holy sites or encampments or commercial hubs or harbors or...
Played a Kongo game.
Primordial map, which gave me a marsh heavy spawn. I founded my Capitol in an area with I think 9 contiguous marsh plots. I eventually had to smash two for St Basils and for Mt St Michel, and a volcano smashed a couple others.
Sadly Arabia also had a marsh heavy spawn and...
Barbarians still overrun them. I was playing as Kongo yesterday (primordial map; makes Kongo kind of OP) and Ethiopia was doing very well, so I sent my apostles over there en masse on suicide missions. I figured they’d have a good enough faith economy to get me quick relics.
Barbarians from a...
Downloaded the patch today and played as Portugal tonight. The large quantity of barb galleys makes for a fun challenge for early game Portuguese trade routes.
Adds a little more challenge than usual. Challenge may not be the right word- maybe adversity?
When you’re stacking them up against GC and other NFP civs they have room to be stronger.
I actually think Scythia wouldnt get much stronger with this change, but would be a lot more fun if Saka Archers and Kurgans had a use beyond era score.
Peters might be over the top but the leader ability...
I think the Khmer and Spain changes were perfect.
The civs I have been thinking about most since then are from the original-
Scythia- make the kurgan more valuable (reduce the gold cost of units trained in a city with a kurgan?), let Saka Archers move after attacking
India- let Varus do full...
I also don’t find city combat all that annoying.
I sort of like the requirement to use a combined arms approach and mix Calvary, melee and siege units for the attack.
If you have a strong fleet that helps too.
You just need to plan your attack well for loyalty/walls/encampment purposes.
The...
Maybe in the minority but I found Georgia’s protectorate war cheesy. You get faith just for declaring war which makes the ability best when some Civ on another continent attacks a city state a world away, you declare protectorate war and mind your business and watch your faith generation...
