Got a reminder that it had been a while since I got back to these so, here's another one. :)
Rome is the T-Rex of the Old World universe. As you play more games, you'll notice an unmistakable trend. Any time Rome is in the game, assuming they're not hemmed in by poor geography, they'll be at...
Assyria is one of the nations that new players often struggle with. They're tricky to play and that can make them frustrating. Here's what makes Assyria hardcore awesome:
Forget the pillage bonus. It's one of those things that looks good on paper, but in practice, it stinks. It's literally...
What might be cool would be - to set up a 5 player MP thing...two humans and three AI's, and then have it "humans against the world" so we'd cooperatively expand and beat the hell out of the AI's. That would create the kind of structure I think where the dual (complimentary) religions could...
Well...what I'm thinking is (and this would only really apply for a relatively peaceful game that went long term) but...let's say you and I were on a team. We both founded a religion and we both took steps to spread our religions to each other and strategized which enhancements to give. We...
I don't play MP, but I've watched more than a hundred MP streams at this point and based on what I've seen, most games don't last long enough for it to matter. I guess ultimately it depends on the kind of game you've got running and who you're playing with. It feels like it has the potential...
Right! I absolutely advocate for that too - it's just that when deciding where to place that triad of improvements (garrison + 2 barracks), I like to really study the map and see where I could best use that extra defensive "kick" - best of both worlds! :)
Right - if you get offered the "dealmaker" trait for one of your characters, and then you appoint that character as governor, he/she can create caravans too, which is super handy!
Yep...Commanders are underappreciated, I think. Tacticians get most of the headlines because of stun, and Heroes because of "launch offensive" but commanders are certainly no slouches!
Right - Orators can hire using Legitimacy...that's expensive but it can be super effective in that you can dramatically increase the size of your military (albiet, at a long term cost) and use that to pummel a neighbor. I don't really like the orator archetype but they definitely have their...
For sure - most players struggle to find the right prioritization for units (and usually err on the side of not building enough). The only civ that can get away with that is Carthage because they've got an easy, reliable way of getting units without having to train them.
It's definitely difficulty-level based. At Noble and below, it's not something you normally have to take into account, but as you move up from there it begins to become an increasingly significant issue (and especially when combined with the fact that as the AI becomes increasingly aggressive...
