I couldn't help but thinking of irrational, militaristic city-states while reading this article. I implore Firaxis to try and stick in Qatar as a city-state in the...
totally agree with you, Band. I loved the holy wars and diplomatic maneuvering religion required in Civ4 although it had the unintended consequence of making diplomacy completely ridiculous at times. Not sure why they can't just find a happy medium in Civ5..
wow, sounds completely different than Civ4. This is my first game into Civ5 and I was going crazy accumulating faith and focusing on spreading my religion but it seems that that may not be such a wise investment.. especially since I have almost no army and am at war with India and Carthage...
So first of all, I thank everyone who commented on my thread a few weeks ago where I asked if Civ5 had improved enough since its release... I have been an addict since Civ3 and I can say that I effing played until 5 am last night when I 2am was the limit (I work as a doctor and its completely...
I just posted in Xanthippus' post but I will summarize
I have been a civ addict since Civ3. I held out on Civ5 until last week (all the negative reviews kept me away but it seemed the tide was turning). I basically only care about strong AI play and I feel this has delivered. I also feel...
Xanthippus,
I didn't immediately buy Civ5 just to feel out the reviews and after hearing them, I stayed away until this week. I couldn't stand being horribly disappointed.. all I really care about is strong AI so I can have a challenging game in all eras (I generally play Emperor). So with...
Hey guys. The replies have been very helpful but I feel poor Funky is being piled up against. He did directly address my the question which I had and that was very appreciated and I understand what his concerns with the AI are. But it is good to see that there are so many people passionate about...
Yeah, thanks for addressing my question directly guys. I honestly would pay $500 for what would essentially be Civ3 but if they had just spent the last 10 years making the AI better (and added religion). Sounds like it is a work in progress still but it might be time to jump on board, albeit not...
Well I have not played CiV yet so I'm not at anything in particular but I really just want an AI that is not terribly predictable, doesn't need a ton of bonuses and most importantly can challenge me to keep me interested in the game.
And yes, I know many people didn't like Civ3 but I just...
It's interesting reading ya'lls' posts. I am still debating whether to finally get CiV (AI competence is the main factor here) but in Civ 3 and 4, you really could never make a beeline for wonders in the beginning unless you had a capital and a second city on excellent productive terrain and you...
well that is what I want to hear... I should have specified that I actually love (and sometimes still have dreams about) Civ3 and that although Civ4 was fairly awesome, it just didn't create that sense of wonderment of owning an empire. I've read that CiV is actually more like Civ3 in many...
I am a grizzled civ vet going back to civ3.. I withheld from getting Civ5 because of the negative reviews (mainly the poor AI performance) on this forum despite the glowing computer game industry reviews. I was wondering if any of those who were disappointed with the initial incarnations of CiV...
I def quit if I'm way ahead. Getting to the modern age with rail, tanks and bombers is almost like starting another complete game and if I can't get to that point without at least a few others civs who can challenge me, there's no point in my opinion
I always played emperor in cIV and...
Someone else stated this nicely on another thread but there are different types of personalities that play civ... some who play to win at all costs and others who play for the historical experience. This is probably why no one on these threads can understand what the other half is trying to...
