    Giving the submarine a temporary promotion after attack, which would make it visible for 1 turn, might be an elegant solution. Not perfect, but doable and no extra AI training would be needed.

    These artifacts typically start to appear when there's not enough memory - Civ5 is a 32-bit software after all. Do you use any other mod adding units/graphics, etc.?

    The terrain textures consume a lot of ram too. I'd disable them first if I started getting CTDs.

    Yes, I mentioned it in my next comment. This must be the reason why @Slyceth felt the AI units were stronger. But I think they don't get THAT many extra promotions on Emperor, or do they?

    The only difference should be that on higher difficulties, AI gets more XP ==> they appear stronger in the early game, when your own units are still green. But I am a very boring person, I've kept playing on Emperor level exclusively for years, that's the level I enjoy most, so I can't really...

    Maybe I misunderstood you, but your units fight AI on equal footings. The difference is in the quantity of units the AI can churn out and support.

    If I remember correctly, the graphics was quite blurry when you zoomed in to max level. I think you'd need to explore the database with SQLite. Or there is this mod called something like "Villages grow into towns", which is using it for the late town graphics. You could extract it from there.

    Community Patch - How To Install

    You will get there glitches if you use mods with lots of graphic assets, such as RED or Ethnic Units. Some HW is more prone to these than others, but it is a question of "when" than rather than "if" with these.
