    Petty criminals bug

As I recall from the discussions with Dale a year or so ago, on the final AoD2 build, petty criminals could become soldiers or missionaries, but couldn't be educated in schools. Indentured servants can be educated in schools, but can't be made into soldiers or missionaries. Indentured servants...

    Pirates... HELP

As I recall, the pirates were never developed into a viable player alternative. And in the last version of AoD2 they were in fact disabled. Cheers, --- Wheldrake

    long education

A better - and easier - solution is to play the AoD2 mod, which solves the extending education problem, and many, many others. Cheers, --- Wheldrake

    No elder statesmen?

Elder statesman: as with any other specialist with the exception of planter specialists, you can simply buy these guys from the Europe screen. Sugar planter: if you can't find a native village that trains sugar planters *anywhere* on the map, then you can have a regular unit (free colonist...

    Age of Discovery - Wishlist

Gomer, to your three points: 1) In earlier versions of AoD (and especially in the vanilla Civ4Col), it was fairly easy to scoop up over 75% of the FFs for yourself. Now the only way to get a few is to ruthlessly build political points whenever possible, and even then you really have to choose if...

Lack of ships on the king's part causes me to lose

Unfortunately, once you destroy the initial attack waves, the remaining king's ships are often wandering around the edges of the map. It can be a real challenge to find that last fugitive ship. Only by exterminating every last ship can you actually win the game. IMHO this is a real drawback...

Native training takes longer each time?

Actually, once you have one of the above specialists in your training town, you can train anything you like, even veteran soldiers. The trick is getting the first sugar planter (or whatever). Cheers, --- Wheldrake

Trying to get the hang of the mechanics

A common problem with AoD2 v1.10 is that even on lower difficulty levels, the AI expands super-fast compared to the player. This said, as long as you can build your own empire a bit and get an invasion force of veteran soldiers, dragoons and canons, you can eventually take out any adversary, no...

    Bugs in 1.11b

With a huge map, and at that late date in the game, you probably have loads of cities, your adversaries probably have loads of cities, and it is just possible that the save file has become so big that your computer can't handle it. Have you tried reloading earlier autosaves and playing to the...

    Bugs in 1.11b

This has happened to me twice in perhaps 30 or so games. Very odd behaviour indeed! IMHO it is not a mistake in the Aod2 mod, but an error in the way the game itself stores data. As you noted, it seems to be linked to a caravel escaping. No idea how to fix it, other than reloading a saved...

    Playable Natives - Ideas

Civ4 will be a better vehicle for this mod concept than Civ4Col. YMMV, --- Wheldrake

    Are Converted Natives rather useless?

That's the key, IMHO. If you've got 2-3 schools at the "college" or "university" level, for a colony of, say, 8-10 cities, you should have no problem converting all your native colonists into more useful specialists, or into veteran soldiers and dragoons. You'll still need to purchase at least...

    Playable Natives - Ideas

Well, you lads are chewing on part of the problem, but the real indigestible bone runs deeper: European civilization is fundamentally based on the production of commodities, and Native American civilization is not. You touch on that when you suggest a need for a "replacement for Europe". What...

    Are Converted Natives rather useless?

If you found new cities, with loads of converted natives producing food, they will pump out ordinary colonists, which can then be trained in native villages as specialists. If you have a city with a lumberjack and a carpenter and a school, you can soon fill all those extra cities with their own...

    Are Converted Natives rather useless?

Build a few extra cities! Those converted natives can harvest goods and ship them to your factory cities, or else just harvest food to grow your population. I don't get this. If you send converted natives to a city with a school, college or university you can train them to be any specialty...
