unbuggy version of Col for Windows?

Dos Col is fairly stable. I get an occasional ctd but is east to relaunch. Never had units stop working. The graphics in the dos version are not as crisp as ColWin, but still addictive as ever. You could google/amazon/ebay around for it. I run mine (ver 3.0) without dosbox on xp.

    Calling Col Oners...

Well, things were bound to change. The Spanish only had two dragoons outside my center colony (have 3 in a line along a conifer river :goodjob: ). And they just decided to declare on me. They lost the 2 attack initial wave . Looks like a couple of slaves to me. The other two...

    Games not broken on release?

But this growing problem of garbageware is NOT the solution. Granted, they want to get the product to market asap for greater profits, but the gaming community is getting sick and effing tired of this. And because of that, the initial sales boom is going to bring in less and less, with the...

    Calling Col Oners...

Not by much . However, just once in a while, one can feel good about the arrow wacks. (playing col1 currently). I have the Spanish comming down from the north, the Dutch encroaching from the south, and a couple of ship loads of English troops running around my area wreaking havock on...

    Calling Col Oners...

So they removed the wagon train # = colony # cap? I actually liked how that was set up. Endless piles of wagons is just screaming for a ... cheese corporation. (grin)

Col II is a Sloppy Product

Thx to the OP for the review. It answered a number of questions I had regarding the game changes. I think I will wait to get this one. I agree with JonBrave about #10 and #13.

This game is bad, where can I get the Col 1 Dosbox

I run col1 dos on XP without dosbox. I don't have sound doing it that way, but for me that's a non issue. I am sure my roomies are glad for that when I am kicking Spanish hiney at 3am. :coffee: (version 3.0, from an XP dos shortcut, viceroy.exe). I likewise think I am going to wait to get...

    Post Short Tips/Tricks Here

aww. It makes sence though. "We refuse to pay your tax and will throw 45 tonnes of lumer into the... field!" What about using "tax galleons"? In Col1 I uually had one anchored just for that purpose (when I had more than one costal colony), and wagon swapped each turn when time...

Price of "hurried" colonists cost far more than "new" ones

The price of "paying the way" of a colonist in Col1 does increase with each new colonist. And yes, I have seen the cost of a dock monkey be more than getting the same thing from the Royal University (in Col1).

How can you tell which tiles belong to the Natives?

I don't have the game yet, but in the original the big natives (aztecs) had a 2 tile boundry whereas the mid level and small native nations only took up the 9 tile. Might still be in the game design.

"third game of the Civilization IV franchise"

That may be true about the wiki on some things. But the information regarding the new Civ 4: Colonization release is backed up with cross refrences to to Firaxis site and such type entries are verfiable. It's not just a matter of Civ 4 being added for marketing purposes. If it was truly a...

    Newbie help

One option would be to make a number of criminal dragoons and go kill indians. Once they get promoted up to a free colonist, put them to work in your colonies and make another criminal/servant dragoon. If you don't want to eliminate the native city, you can park your units a couple of tiles...

    Newbie help

you can have a colonist be "blessed as a missionary" on the docks, or turn one into one if your colony has a church built. At the higher levels of play, I don't bother with them. Your lucky if you get one convert, and quite frankly, I would rather have the criminal. At least it can be...
