When we mouse over the icons in the diplomacy screens -which show how the AI leaders feel about each other- a pop up or blurb will come up putting a word to the image. 'Friendly' for the little smile, 'Declared friends' for the bigger smile; and so on. Yet when there is no icon there, the word...

This is something I can't figure out. When you look at the relationships an AI civ has with other civs in their diplomatic screen; are you seeing what the other civs leaders think of that leader... or are you seeing what that leader thinks of other civs leaders? Here we have Trajan's screen...
