launch problems

I read that quite few people are having problems with the game crashing during map loading. In my case I can't even launch the game. I click to start the game, the 2k window opens, I select DX12 (as always), the 2k menu window closes but the game doesn't start, and after about 10 seconds steam...

I own the Steam version of Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword and haven't had any technical trouble since purchasing it. However, yesterday I suddenly got an error that has been preventing me from starting the game. The error reads as uch: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Program:....IV...
