with more & more civs getting revealed and with Meiji being the only japanese civ basically confirmed at this point,
finding a satisfying historial path seems very hard to do.
So what if;
Meiji is only unlocked through gameplay & leader!
Making it so...
The presence of several civs that have links with several other civs can help make the change more flexible as well as real.
Examples:
-Celts -> France/UK
-Byzantines -> Rome/Greece (antiquity) and Ottoman/Russia (modern)
-Mongols -> Russian/Qing/Mughals
What other "link civs" can you think of?
I'm not going to go into too much detail because honestly when it comes to world history I'm not qualified to, but what are the major themes you would want Civilization VII to focus on if it was the game made for you in this moment of time. For me the areas of focus should be:
