1.0.12.9(564030) Won't load or start a game after update this morning

I opened CIV VI through STEAM this morning. It carried out a small update and then appeared to open as normal. I tried to load a saved game but it failed, telling me that a MOD was causing the problem. I tried starting a new game using one of the new maps and with an old map all to the same effect. I have disabled ALL MODS and the result is the same. PLEASE HELP as I can't use the game at all at the moment.

I haven't used a prefix as I don't know what they are!

Was the game saved using a mod? Might have rendered the save incompatible with the current update.

All the mod data is still in the save game, even if you disable the mods.

EDIT: as for starting a new game: unsub from the mods, verify game files, you should be good.

Ever since the update I've had horrendous trouble loading the game through steam. I click "Play" nothing happens maybe 3 or 4 times before I get "Cancel" or a loading screen. Sometimes it goes to a 2K "Buy" screen. I've had the game since launch!

Taskmaster says the 2K launcher is active, except it isn't? Took me 40 minutes to actually load the game yesterday! Testament to my addiction!

OP:
Go into Mods, disable everything, then go through enabling all you want. Stumbled on this by accident a while back and it seems to work.

Glad it isn't just me! Having disabled all the MODS, it seemd to make no difference but I eventually managed to start a new game, and am able to load saves of that although not any older ones. Have deleted the older ones to save irritation and am about to start re-enabling the Mods that I want - search is a lot better with a Mod, assuming I can now find it.
