im new to all this so bare with me

my question is, can i put new units in the empty boxes in the "UNITS" .GIF in the civ2 folder? (look at the piccie if you dunno what i mean), or am i stuck with the number of the diffrent units the game comes with?

and if yes, how do i connect the right icon in a box to its numbers in the rules.txt file?

EDIT: 11 views and no reply? come on, i did try the tutorial in the units thread, all i got was "file not found!"

HELP

there is a unit editor in the actual game menu bar under the editor menu and you need to activate scenario mode in order to use it. This is much better as you get to fiddle with a seperate set of files instead of the original ones.

This is assuming you have FW or MGE versions. If not you need to upgrade using the cedric patch first.

EDIT: uppgraded civ2 with the cedric patch and it working

i have not found the unit editor, nor do i know how i activate the custome mode... :(

can you please clarify?

toggle scenario mode as shown and activate the editor

heh, thanks alot for the screenie, very nice! :)

unfortunately i dont have the "edit" menu, next to my cheat menu is the civilopedia menu! and im sure i upgraded since i now have "multi-player" added in my main menu

but never mind, since i uppgraded to GME i now have the possibility to make use of the last row of units in the palette that was empty in civ-2 vanilla!

ill just make a back up and it will be fine, anyways ill prolly just screw around with civ2 a few weeks and then be done with it

thank you

ps.i just remebered i have another question:

i remember the game has a limit for how many units it can handle, as in the total number of the units in the game (from whatever nationality) can not exceed a certain number (i think 300)

is there a way to raise this number?

cool

thanks alot ;)

edit:im embarassed to ask but i will anyway, is this it?

i got the no limit(GME) file, althought in the description it said nothing about fixing the limit on units, only population and money and in the readme.txt
it said its for multi-player only!

im not gonna play multi-player...

Indeed. Because those are the only limits it fixes. It doesn't change the limit of the max amount of units (around 2048) or cities (255) in a game.

it said its for multi-player only!

He just means the MGE version of Civ2, not the multiplaying aspect of it. It won't work for other versions of Civ2.[/QUOTE]

can some one else help out here, this is not my area of expertise but I find it really strange that there is no cheat or editor menus after upgrading.
I've upgraded to both MGE and FW and the editor menu is only in FW, not in MGE.

I own original copies of both FW and MGE and they are essentially the same (MGE allows multiplayer, has more space reserved for events, an improved civpedia via the description file and techtree view and thats about it). TOT however has no editors.

Maybe the problem arose from skipping the cedric patch to FW before doing the patch to MGE. You upgrade to FW and get the editors and then upgrade to MGE with the editors staying. Jawz, those editors are quite important when you are starting out so I suggest that you try to get them.
