So I started this game as the vikings, but I'm not sure what strategy to follow.
Any ideas? XD

I think is the most fortified capital I ever had...

Lol... yeah... we've had some starts like that before... some people are interested in them, so you might want to post the save.

The only valid strategy (I think) is to make building an encampment first priority, then pushing out units (which will appear in the encampment), then conquering at least another city.

having this kind of start as viking is really a double hurt in my opinion. This kind of start is really a max challenge. I wouldn't try and tackle that while
I'm learning the bolts and nuts of the game, but to each his own fun ;-)

WOW, never had that. I think if you build another military unit it will force it to the nearest usable tile. Like when a city is completely surrounded, and newly trained units appear behind the invading lines. So it shouldnt be an instant reroll if you dont want to. See if the same happens with civilians, making a builder and then a settler should force the settler out if Im not mistaken.
At least you know they cant eliminate you until they get mountain tunnels.
By the way, hola paisano, otro de la peninsula por aqui .

Given that you are surrounded by mountains, I would focus on building things that benefit from being next to a mountain. You are losing 6 tiles to mountains, and your only starting unit is essentially useless until you get tunnels later in the game.

The capital city will not be very productive and you certainly cannot build any wonders that require being adjacent to the city center, but at least the AI has to wait until you get later in the game before they can lay siege to your capital.

.

no ! they will stack in your city center, unfortunately.

so... only way is to build an encampment 2 tiles from city center, THEN when you build military units, they will appear in the encampment

I would love to try a game like that Haha though I know I'd probably fail

If you started as the Inca, it wouldn't actually be terrible. As anyone else, it's a long time to wait for tunnels, and you still run into the problem that you might pop a builder or scout which goes direct to the city. You can escape it, as mentioned, build an encampment, build an army, conquer. But it's gonna be very slow going.
