A few ideas about barbarians minor and major ones, I don't know if I repeat something that's said before or if there's a minor mod somewhere. If so sorry :)

1. Finally change their names aw we advancing eras. Is not difficult after Mediaval era to call them Bandits and after Industrial Rebels. Is it? It's kind awkward getting messages trade route plundered by barbarians with caravels when you are having tanks.

2. I don't know how's that possible, and how to implented it to the game engine, but I find it great ideas instead of camps and from medieval era and after for barbarians to have instead camps a small city. It may stop a little the fast expanding of the AI in highest difficulties and is also a more kind of historical accurate. Ι don't know if instead of that, we could have some hostile city states not able to have a surezain bot human and AI players.

3. Make them less aggresive towards cities and military units and more aggressive against civilians, priests and traders. On one hand it's more accurate historically in the other hand it will balance the threat because you ll have to make a stronger military presence. Also it will help the AI without turning them off.

All three ideas are great. On top of that, if barbarians start in small cities (1 tile, with the adjacent hexes?) instead of camps after some point, they could also keep cities when they capture them instead of razing. I'm not sore how immersive this would be, since they should surely pillage everything they can get a hold of. But having a small barbarian empire as a neighbor that may be a real pain sounds fun to me.
