A Modest Proposal for Thunderfall, SunTzu, JValdez, the other Moderators, my fellow CivFanatics members, etc.:

Since we have been having much debate over custom vs. random maps, reload vs. no reload, what would permit a game to be included in the Hall Of Fame and so forth.
I propose a competition.....

Let's have one of our expert designers (Like the honorable Mr. Valdez) create a logically-thought-out, well-designed, believeable map. Not a scenario, but just a map that anyone who wishes to can download and play. The moderators set down a certain set of rules as to save and reloads, etc. Then let each person play out the games on their own machines and upload their best games for our own CivFanatics Map Hall of Fame.

I think that most versions of the game can load a pre-made map, so as to make the competition open and available to as many folks as possible. About the only ones not able to participate in the competition would be those who play on PlayStation (Sorry Vlad... if there was some way to include you we would find a way.)

What do you all think? It's just a suggestion...

Excelent idea! But you have to consider the start spots carefully... We don't want no civ to have too great an advantage.

By the way... Remember 2/3 of our planet is under water. Those maps with almost no water at all, are completely unrealistic...

I think that it would be a great idea, it would make the score more equal and give everybody a chance - I just have one question: Isn't that what Apolypton does for their monthly ladder/competition??
We don't want to be a bunch of copycats so we might want to think a bit more about the idea.
And defenently not on the World map - I hate that map!!!

That sounds like a good idea but i think a better challenge would be for you all not to play civ 2 for a week. I have gone without for some time now and i'll tell you, it does wonders for brain.

Hey I'm just coming back after more than a years break and I love playing Civ2 again!!!
Even if I'm playing on a friend computer and don't have very much time to do it.

guys i know iam new to the site, however the idea of 1 map that everybody plays takes away from the game the randomness the struggle to explore. I think everyone just play til your eyes drop out and the high score will change all the time, i myself will never be above 150% like some of the guys i just can't change my sorry statigies!

I think it's a great idea with the "world" map, but even a custom made map by a "neutral" person or so would be fine, I think. But the starting point is so important that I think everybody should also start at the same spot.
And, of course it takes some of the fun away, but when you play for the record a random map is just not fair.
Hope we'll figure that out...
