After the release of civ4, there appeared good Turkish mods. But, they all have different unique units in them. So, I made a small research on Turkish military, especially the Ottoman military.

1. Janissaries (Janizary, (Tur)Yeniçeri)
Janissaries were the elite troops of the Ottoman army. They first appeared in mid 1300's, and revived until Mahmud II's reign. They were mostly composed of enslaved christians, "devshirmes" and were capable of using a wide range of weapons.
For civ4,
This unit can be represented by replacing
a. Longbowman
b. Maceman
c. Musketman

Since they were elite soldiers, and their primary role was being the bodyguard of the sultan himself, they could
a. Have greater hitpoints
b. Have greater hitpower
c. Begin with defensive bonuses

The truth beyond Janissaries is that, upcoming of "rifleman" was their end. Replacing Janissaries for Rifleman is a big mistake.
If modders have a chance, Janissaries should not be upgradable to Rifleman.

2. The Basilica ( (Tur)Şahi Topu)
The famous cannons that destroyed the walls of Constantinople. They were produced with great engineering, and was superior to any of other cannons.
For civ4,
Replaces cannon, no doubt.
Bonuses:
a. increased power
b. increased collateral damage
c. increased city attack

3. Raider (incursionist, (tur)akıncı [preferred name])
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akıncı

More could be written, but the wikipedia entry is enough

For civ4,
Replaces horse archer
Since they are "hit and run" troops, they could have
a. greater chance of withdraw
b. greater line of sight
c. both :)

4. Sipahi (Tımarlı Sipahi)
As we know from civ3, they were fearsome! They may be added as in civ3, but I have a better idea: adding them as a distinct unit! No replacements for current units! Available with gunpowder, a dragoon unit, having superiority to any knight units.
If you don't like this idea, they may be replaced for
a. knight
b. cavalry

but I don't personally prefer replacing for cavalry. The height of sipahis were in middle ages, and knight represent this era better. Cavalry is more "industrial" unit, and Turks did not have any superiority in industrial era..

5. Ghazi
Ghazis were religious soldiers fought in many battles during the fall of Seljuk Empire and beginning of Ottoman Empire. They were afraid of nothing, believed deeply in Islam, and fought for Islam.
For civ4,
the appearance of Islam seems very late in the game. The replacements may be
a. Swordsman
b. Axeman
c. Longbowman
d. Maceman

but I think longbowman is a better choice. They lack the defence due to their poor armor, but they are powerful in attack, especially against melee units.

This list may be extended, but these are enough I think.
Most of the information were taken from wikipedia, and my own brain :D
Note: I will probably not participate in any mod projects due to my courses. But, if any, I may help from the forum for any Turkish mod/scenario projects.
