Its trailer was one of the most misleading ones of recent times; it presented the film as horrory or at least dark, while in reality this is mostly a comedy...
Overall i didn't like this movie at all. It likely is the first time i am let down by Tom Hardy as well. Seems he gave in to make a quick dollar.

There hardly was any dark element here - even the decapitations seemed to exist just to sell the movie by the trailers.. :)

Really disliked how this felt like comedy + random antagonists and nothing dark or sinister other than the stills of venom the dark comedian

Besides, when it is the first movie, it is a very bad idea to already include a second monster when you hardly have established the main monster.

This seems like it belongs in the movie thread...

However, you're right that the movie was changed quite a bit from its early conception. If you went into it expecting the initial model, you would inevitably be disappointed. I was fortunate in that I knew about the changes before I saw it so I was capable of changing my expectations.

If you expect a relatively campy action movie, it delivers and it delivers well. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I remember that when Venom said he doesn't want to go to the home planet because he is kind of a loser there, whole cinema room laughed
I think there was too much this kind of moderate action movie crap where characters must always say some kind of joke in between of action time.
I also expected darker movie than how it was. I didn't enjoy it much because for me it was really regular comic based action movie. I have to say that I don't care that much movies based on comic characters but this one interested me.

So are the comics.

If you want horror, you'll have to wait till they do one with Carnage. Although it'll be all about the gore, nothing psychological - again that is if they stick with the comics.

I never saw it. All the reviews said it was bad but that you should go see it anyways because there is some mildly amusing dialogue. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Ignore the reviews on this one. Go into it with the expectation of a moderately humorous/light take on a superpower story and you'll enjoy it.

Liked it. I don't know why so much negativity. The movie was funny. It is all I ask from a superhero movie. If I want to see a serious movie I will watch a movie about serious things instead.

Well in addition to the reviews, the trailer didn't make it look very good. The CGI for venom looked...off, Hardy's accent didn't sound right, and the humor wasn't my style. I may give it a go if it comes to a streaming service but I'm certainly not paying any additional money to see it.

I dislike comic movies too. Venom was sold as being bleak, but in reality it never takes itself seriously. It was a big letdown :)

Seeing the trailer I had no interest, but reading here that it's more a comedy, I'll make sure I catch it when it comes to cable/streaming
