I haven't played Ag civs in a long time and am a bit rusty on how it works. I thought you only got 3 food if you settle near fresh water (assuming grassland). I just noticed ALL my cities are producing 3 food in the center tile. Is that because I'm in Republic now??

No, Republic only affects commerce... and even then commerce outside the city IIRC.

If you notice, when you settle a city, the center tile automatically produces 2 food (ALWAYS) otherwise if you say, surrounded a city completely with mountains and put it on the only hill slot, it would starve itself by the next turn. Agri makes all city centers that normally produce 2 foods make three.

Agricultural = Epic Amazingness

Yes, that is right. In Despotism and Anarchy the agricultural trait gets 3 food in city centers if on fresh water, and only 2 food if not. In a proper government it is always 3 food.

It's 2 food for non-agricultural, 3 food for agricultural when not in Despotism, 3 food when on fresh water in Despotism.

Huh, so I was wrong... my bad then delphi. I guess it serves me right for not playing agri civs.

Something to keep in mind then, to me that seems to really limit the value of the agri trait.

It's still the strongest trait. Except maybe you are playing on an archi map without any rivers.

Absolutely. Besides the extra food to help you in early expansion (probably most important part of the game) you can settle desert cities that would be garbage without the Ag trait. They basically become plains tiles for you. 3 Food, 1 Hammer tiles with railroads.

@Strategist - Try an Agricultural Civ, you won't believe how strong the trait is.

I have found that the Dutch with the Ag and seafaring are masters of expansion. You get lots of early settlers and can take them to new lands safely. (oh, I modded my currah to take 1 passenger)

I resisted playing Agri for the longest time. I mean, cmon, 1 extra food? Can't make that much of a difference. :rolleyes:

Then about a year ago I started playing Celts. Both the strong early growth and mobile UU to support expansion are pretty formidable. Now I only play Agri / the Celts. :D
