AI gang up!

QUIT WHINNING!!! What are you a man or a mouse, you must bring your Civ to a glorious victory over your enemies and then return and speak of Glorious Tale

Its pretty hard when you have 4 enemies (that are all civs that border you) 2 of them alot more powerful than you bearing down on you from every side!

But I'll find a way to win

5 0f 16, But it was a world war on a huge map. Almost everyone was at war.

My biggest AI gang-up ever was a recent Tiny Map 8 civ game I created by modding the maximum allowed number of civs.

I was the Aztecs. In the second half of the game, I had the Americans, Greeks, Romans, Zulus, and Ottomans all allied against me.

I didn't really worry, because I started it.

Usually I'm on the other end of the dogpile.

One time, it was great, I had a very peaceful game. No wars, except for a minor one. Well, I saw that I would have an excellent chance for a diplo win, so about ten turns out from completing the UN, i dogpiled Persia and took the diplo win. :D

I think the most I've had attack me at once was three. Maybe more. But not much more.

I've had about 10 civs against me, and I was quite tiny compared to them. Luckily I was allied with the most badass civ in the game. I played defensively and managed to score a One city cultural victory

I usually had every other civ in the game allied against me during my first few games of Civ (many moons ago). Then I realized I wasn't playing Warcraft anymore and discovered this thing call diplomacy. Now I initiate the dogpiles (Xerxes is still my favorite target).

I had 6 civs gang up on me once but it didn't work out for them because I was the only one with tanks. I call this a gangbang because that's what it is...

In my recent game I wouldn't give tribute to the Persians and they declared war on me. I allied with the Byzantines. The Persians allied with the Aztecs and declared war on the Byzantines. I offered to help the Byzantines for tech. Then the Sumerians joined in with the Aztecs and I got more tech from the Byzantines. Then the Dutch declared war on me, so I made peace with the Persians, Aztecs and Sumerians - getting tech and gold from each one and left the Byzantines fighting by themselves. Then I concentrated on the Dutch (my immediate neighbours) and took the whole continent. Then it was my big continent versus four warring states on the other... = )

I had up to seven or eight civ against me. Then I learned the "dogpile back" trick, especially when it's the early game and I'm not really powerful : as soon as someone bring one or two allies in the war, immediately pay what it's needed to bring two to four allies on your own. Then sit back, and watch everyone bringing the rest of the world in the stack.

You need to keep the AI's happy with you - make a few trades, and trade your map every 20 turns.

Also, in a pangea situation you are much better off to buy embassies and keep tabs on the alliances that develop. Sometimes you can steer clear of wars, but sometimes there is no choice but to join one side or the other.

How many AIs have you had gang up on you? In a game I was just playing 4 civs declared war on me at once, it really sucks

All at once?

Did you happen to nuke someone? Did you attack someone who was involved in a multi-civ MPP? I've never had multiple Civs declare war on me during a turn (w/o involving nukes, or MPPs).

Basically, if a Civ declares war on me, I'll spend my next turn building the biggest alliance against the aggressor I can. If I don't sway support to my side, the enemy Civ will sway support against me.

In my current game on emp. as Celts- Maya, India, Rome and America are all
at war with me at the present time. . It is 720AD and I began a war
with Maya to get Leo's wkshop. The others have tried to jumb in  vs
me. The Americans declared with India after only 1 turn of an alliance WITH
me vs the Mayans :crazyeye: . I have already smashed them one time for
the same kind of move  . I am having a hard time capturing the
Mayan city with Leo's due to lack of powerfull offensive units vs their pikemen. , but I now have 5 or 6 trebuckets, a few horsemen,
some Ancient Cavs, an elite gallic sword and 1 Gallic Army- not including
many fortified pikes and a couple of Medieval Inf. Should take a couple more
turns then I can concentrate on the others ;) .

Funny how missions of taking a resource, say rubber for infantry can lead to a world war. I really don't like the idea of going to war because I don't have rubber or the AI is to "stupid" to connect there other supply of rubber so we can trade.

There was time on Emperor level (always huge map) that a world war was not necessary. ;)

I try to avoid embroiling many nations in my conflicts unless it's really necessary, whether the interlopers are fighting for me or against. If it's possible, I prefer not to let potential rivals capture important territory, especially if that territory contains valuable resources, and. However, I prefer not to be double-teamed, so on occasion I will sign alliances. Nevertheless, even with this rather reactive alliance system I'm very rarely the scapegoat of a grand alliance.

However...
There is a certain thrill that comes with being a rouge state. You don't have to listen to "world opinion" and you basically have a carte blanche to do whatever the heck you want, so long as you are Teutonic enough to keep the AI at bay. I kinda understand why Saddam kept telling the UN to #$&% off. :king:
