Hi everyone, a newbie here.

Ok, so i've started some kind of world war. I knew that my opponent had bombers (really annoying) so i built some F-15 fighters & some stealth fighters. I haven't discovered Smart Weapons yet.

question) Do these fighters actually have a purpose? I started bombing their cities & units with it. Unfortunatly their bombings failed 99% of the time & they don't protect me from the enemy bombers.

Air to air combat doesn't seem to exist in civIII (unlike civ II) so do those fighters have any use?? Or should i just built Bombers & artillery like a mad man...

You need to play with a patched version because original one, air supperiority doesnt work.

If you use a patched version, you have to put your fighter or jet fighter on air supperiority, they will cover 3 tile around them( half their range). It always good to have a carrier full of jet fighter escorting your other carrier+battleshipe.

Here an exemple, a.i use bomber near one of your city. Bring some fighter into that city, next turn put them on air supperiority. Now your tile and your city is defended, remember 1 fighter will handle 1 bomber, so its good to have more than one fighter.

Another exemple, you want to bombard an a.i. city with your bomber, but this city have fighter in it and they destroy your bomber. Then send jet fighter too bombard that city, they will got a chance to kill the fighter if it try to intercept.

Stealth fighter cannot perform air supperiority, they do precision strike and regular bombing.

If you use patch 1.16 Defensive value against bombardement is ok. it is 8. But latest patch increase it to 16( def value for building and citizen) which is ridiculisly high, go into editor under general setting and lower that value to 8 or even 4. If you let that value to 16, catapult and cannon are totaly worhtless over a city, and bomber miss more than 60% of the time.
