The ability to agree within Alliances to station Forts, Airbases and Radar Towers on the territory of your Allies. This would really help make an Alliance useful. It would also make for a more historic WW2 France scenario, allowing British troops to come in on the site of the French and support them with airbases in various places. I think cities should be left out of this agreement though. Once the number of turns the agreement is for expires, all your units move out back to your territory, and your Allies can take over that Airbase, Fort, Radar Tower if they have the requisite technology, otherwise it starts to decay. Care would need to be taken though that this doesn't become an overkill wonder strategy. What does anybody else think?

I've also been thinking about it recently. It is a nice idea, and I think some people expected that the airbases could be built in friendly territory before the release of PTW. But when it was released, it became clear that you could only build these in your own territory.

I think this should be possible to do with Civ IV though.

You should be able to build naval, air and military base in friendly terrotoriry, as long as you have the permission to do so.

You see, THIS kind of thing-along with the ability to station units inside allied structures-would make Alliances truly worthwhile-especially if you could sign alliances OUTSIDE of a war (after all, the ANZUS treaty wasn't signed as a prelude to actual war, it was merely an agreement for co-operation in the event of future wars-as well as joint training and stationing of units within allied cities, airbases and naval bases-same with NATO). It would certainly make it much less likely that a player or AI will backstab an ally!

I think you can in a form, it is called a mutual protection pact. At least you can in C3C. What version of Civilization III do you have? The mutual protection pacts are very limited though and could do with a bit of an ability for beefing up. So could the Right Of Passage, with a right of base. Also requiring a certain tech, naval bases should be able to be built that naval units should be able to sail into like cities. These should only be able to be built near the sea. Also there should be a trade with your Allies where after the agreement has been considered in due course, they see all that you can see. This ability for far sight, makes Allies more useful for exploration etc. Within limits of course. As always a violation of this pact should have a terrible effect on your reputation as it is not a good move. Any thoughts on what I have suggested to SR-71 Blackbird & Aussie_Lurker?

I think there would be more diplomatic agreements. There would be an "alliance" agreement, that's a MPP with more options, like these mentioned here: airbase, naval base (where you can repair damaged ships) and fortress/bunkers.

Also, when you decide to not renew the alliance, it must become a traditional (and unbreakable) MPP automatically, to avoid backstabbing old allies. Having dozen of airplanes and ships there and then backstabbing is not cool, even it is an AI. So, you must have to keep a MPP and remove all units from their lands. Of course, everything made in those lands will be lost or transfered to the other civ (if it has the required techs).

Of course, a Non-Agression Pact is a good idea, but it is mentioned in other threads.
