I have fun through most of the game untill i get to modern era. It just seems to get boring at that point into the game. I get there so fast too. Is there anyway where you can take away the modern era so i dont have to play that part?

Youl ike history huh?

Why do't you like Modern era? Extra resources, new buildings, new tech.

I agree with him, I rarely continue a game once we get into the modern era. The techs go by way to quickly, and I find the historical units much more fun. It would be great if someone made a Mod that ended tech research right around Musketmen and Cavalry.

I used to quit after the Renaissance/Industrial era because it got boring. Here is a possible solution for you: I modded my tech files so that the techs during the modern era don't fly by so fast any more (used to be 2-6 turns on Epic!). I increased techs cost as time goes on to slow the game down. Now the industrial and modern eras play just like the other eras of the game. I actually get a chance to conduct wars with non-obsolete units and I don't feel like the modern era just consists of me choosing tech after tech. I suggest you try it out, maybe you will like the modern era more...I would attach my xml file but I think it is too large...

I like the modern era, but I do agree that it goes real fast. I entered modern age, signed a permenent alliance with an ally, and BAMM, I had like five new techs. Not enough cities to build fast enough. It kind of over whelmed me.
Three of my major cities are trying to snatch wonders, so that leaves only fiv or six descent cities for shelters airports factories troops ships etc.... Like the whole game changed in a matter of four turns. New strategies and trying to upgrade.

I find in all my civ games the modern era gets a bit dull (you're not racing towards anything anymore). I've only had a few games though, so I've not got a proper opinion yet, but Civ4's modern era's really flew by.

I will admit though, I had one of the only true space races since my Civ2 days.:goodjob:

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria!

I don't think I've had a modern era game where nukes came into play unless I launched first. I just don't like having modern armour while everyone has mech inf and thinking..."oh, there's nothing I can build that's better."

try not to expand too much in earlier games, and keep your score about 3rd position, when u in modern era, its very intense and fun

Modern era is so rushed and messy. Everyone's racing to something. And its so messy because by by the time you met every civ on the map, there are so many units moving around its hard to keep track.

ya tech speed is too fast in modern, I end up with loads of modern armor fighting against rifleman and longbowmen.

Tech upgrades faster than I can build it, you get one thing, and by the time you get one or more built, ANOTHER comes along; it's silly, just plain silly. Before modern, everything feels just right in pacing to me.

I agree. The tech pace seems fine until you start approaching the modern era, and then the techs start rolling in at 1 every 2-4 turns. I hope they fix this in a future patch. I loaded a bunch of troops onto some transports and by the time they got to the continent I was planning on invading they were already obsolete!

I was thinking of modding the game so the techs cost more in the modern era, but I see suspendinlight has done it. How did you do it and how much did you adjust the costs?

When you are already in winning position by the the time you ae in the modern era, then it's boring, cause it's all about finishing your victory, but when you are behind and backwards, it's a lot of fun, because the modern weapons, ICBMs make you able to win the game from handicap. Just play on really hard difficulty.

The modern era is supposed to go by fast. In the real world technology is being discovered faster than you can recite the previous one. I think Civ4 made it accurate enough. Still though, most games are won or lost by the time the modern era arrives. When the game is basically over, no amount of slowing will make it more fun. Time to start a new game!

I think i disable the space race vic in my next game, because this is the reason why modern era isn't much more than building space ship. So many cool units and no time to use them. Still, slower research speed would be a good thing, but then maybe the game would need more turns again ;).

I seem to remember that one of the things they said they were improving from Civ3 was the long, boring, moving-slaves-around-to-clean-up-pollution modern era. Seems they might have tried a bit too hard and made it too fast instead...

In the real world you usually have time to at least build a protoype before its obsolete...
I didn't hear anyone mention in my history classes that the riflemen from world war I was about to be reinforced by gunships and modern marines by the time it took them to leave bootcamp to the time they got to the front :crazyeye:
