I've been trying to edit the Islands script to generate smaller "large islands" and larger "tiny islands" as well as creating rifts between regions. The purposes are to necessitate the use of galleys for early settling and make it impossible to circumnavigate the globe and meet all civs with galleys.
I like the standard map types I've played but wanted to play a game where each stage of naval advancement had a meaningful effect. On continents maps galleys are rarely of use. On archipelago maps galleys can circumnavigate the globe and meet all civs making later naval advances merely a matter of increasing the stats of your ships rather than providing a qualitative change. On island maps the "large islands" are too large and the tiny islands too small so that a competitive core can be made wholly on the main island with no early use of galleys for expansion.
I've managed to get the islands script to produce maps much closer to this goal despite not knowing what I'm doing.
The maps have smaller large islands and larger tinies but I am unable to enforce separation of regions with ocean. I don't mind if each region has a coastal connection to one other region, but I'd like to be able to reliably prevent more than that.
If any one who understands map scripts could take a look and offer any advice or insight it would be greatly appreciated.
There are comments at the beginning of the sections I have altered. I have only changed values since I don't know how to script maps. I normally play small and standard map sizes only. So far I have mostly been looking at the maps created for small map with various tinies.
