I was trying to find out how to make my own custom maps or use the world builder, but like a tard, I can't seem to figure out how to do this. Anyone who can hold my sorry hand through how to do this, I would be greatly thankful.

I am working on this too. So far, I've been able to make maps but not as well as I would like to. From what I know (and it is limited) you need to begin a game either from the new game or the custom scenario. Then, you hit Esc and select World Builder from the menu. It will only allow you to see a portion of the map. To view all the map, you need to select that icon in the small window, and then you will see two little (new) icons in the same window. Click the one on the left and now you have access to the whole map. There are limitations. I am having trouble creating land. It works super slow, but my computer is TOP-NOTCH, all the way around!

If you start using the World Builder let me know what issues you encounter. It is actually really nice, if it would only work more efficiently. It may be that I'm just not competent with it, yet. But I used Civ II like a pro! I also have difficulty adding some units, resources, and cities. I am still trying to figure out why. Don't forget to save and you need to have units when you save or you will lose the game and have to start all over on the map.

This is what I've figured out so far on my own. I just joined this forum today. Good luck.

OK. I learned more. First of all, that patch really made a world of difference. Duh! I can't believe I didn't download it before. Since it indicated it was primarily for lower-performance machines, I didn't think it would do me any good. Huge misconception that was! :crazyeye:

Also, the terminology I used wasn't exactly correct--I was writing from memory. Here's what I should have stated: Choose single player, then either play now or custom game. Set-up which players you want. Some of the world details may be irrelevant depending on how much you are going to be changing them in the editor/world builder, but the map size is important. Once the game has begun, don't do anything or make any moves. Simply hit the Esc key on the keyboard and select enter world builder. After I loaded the update, the map was visible from the get-go, so all that revealing tile mode stuff wasn't necessary. But if you need to use it, you select reveal tile mode and then the reveal all tiles icon which appears in the little window box in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

The problems I was encountering with the slow performance and inability to place some units and resources has been resolved due to the patch install. Remember, you need to have at least one of your units on the map before you close it or as soon as you go to load it the game will end. (I've already made that mistake.) There is probably another way to access the World Builder, but I have yet to find it. I'll keep looking since I need to know too.

I hope this helps some.

Hey thanx for your time Martamus! This post sat all day without anyone offering any help. I would have never figured it out. I will let you know how I make out trying out this worldbuilder. Thanx again for your time!

No worries Lykynz. One more thing. After you've saved the game in the world builder and exit the game, you'll need to open it again from the Play a Scenario option in Single Player where you will find your saved world at the bottom of the list. Otherwise, you can save the game after you close the world builder and then exit (now you'll have it in two places). Then, you can retrieve the game from the Load Game option.

I am still having problems with the world builder. When placing terrain, my computer (sound like the motherboard, but I'm not sure) starts beeping, slow at first, then more rapidly, but there is no regular pattern to the beeps, then the game freezes and I have to re-boot. Weird. I'm searching for answers, which are coming slow, at best. This game is going to be really awesome when I figure out the world builder a little better.

Worldbuilder's stupid; it's much less useful than Civ3 Conquests Edit. It is extremely hard to edit games, takes a long time, and its editing ability is at lest severly limited. Why can't I make my own civs? Why do I have to start a new game to enter it? Why is there so little interface? Also, perhaps the worst part (There are so many), WHY CAN'T I EXIT WITHOUT PRESSING CTRL-ALT-DELETE?!?

Sims2789. I have thought those exact words many times. In fact, I became so frustrated with the world builder that three days after I bought the game, I quit playing it altogether. I thought, "What a waste." However, it does present a unique challenge and I'm sure enough people will complain that some day it will change. I just hope it happens before Civ V comes out!!! :smug:

I did see a program someone had created and posted somewhere on the forum that allowed you to use a whole different map editor for Civ IV. I don't remember what or where exactly it was because I haven't given up hope on perfecting/understanding the original yet. You might want to try that one out unless you know of something better. And if so, please share.
