Sorry if this has been posted before but is there any way to remove barbarian after reaching a certain era ?

I feel like barbarians are an unmissable part of the civilisation suite and I don't want to just click them off but I find ridiculous to get some of my plantations burned by a random roaming archer appearing in my safe zone far behind ennemy lines late in the industrial era.

And I am not a fan of carpetting land with cities or units to prevent a random pop in a deserted area.

I think Barbarians who raze stuff are the most annoying feature in the game, well, early on no.. but late game very much.

The least you could do is just spend time and wiping out the encampment.

To quote the manual:

If all the world is civilized, the barbarians will be gone.

Really, as long as every tile is visible by a civ, I think that prevents 'em from making new camps. I find that having a unit garrisoned in each city makes it pretty hard for them to do lasting damage.

Here's how to work the barbarians to your advantage:

1) Adopt the Honor opener. This gives you culture-per-kill for barbarians.

2) Send a couple of archers out to find a camp.

3) Park them there on "Alert", and kill barbarians every time they spawn. If an AI scout doesn't come along and wipe out the camp, you can get a few free social policies over the course of a game.

This is why I like playing Monty. Combining both on kill culture bonuses of honor and Monty's UA and exploring aggressively for Barbies can net you a boat load of culture points. Combine that with the fact that Jaguars UUs are pretty well suited for exploring and killing Barbarians you can make a lot of culture and gold for your early empire.

My main problem is that sometimes after the inital map clearing the barbarians don't respawn as fast as I'd like in some games. Even though I play on Raging/Huge maps.

Playing the Ottomans with this set up, on a watery map is even more productive... soon you'll have a huge navy, at a third the cost of anyone else... roughly it's kill one, capture one, i.e. 50/50. Just park a ship next to a barbarian camp...

LOL if you can stop other AIs killing the camps, you can have a ready supply of Destroyers later too!

Use your guys to to get experience, you can only level one guy twice to 30 points. 2 levels of experience, after that you have to build your units by fighting other AI's.

Sometimes, I find a lucky spot within my borders and I farm xp from that.

Then send your unexperienced dudes over there and you are ready to go!

Training your troops on Barbarians kind of negates the need for barracks and armories. Not that I would build them anyway.

I only build Barracks when i'm primarily a warmonger civ, or I'm planning an assault, and even then I pretty much stick to Barracks because I usually simply use the promotion for the isntan heals with Saving up Promotions game otpion.
