Hi

I just wanted you to ask what the best bonus to start with was like ?

I played now my first game and i think phylosophie is the best. Getting a huge amount of extroardinary people lets you make a lot of things..;)

And the worst for me is expansive....

What do you think about it?

Best 3 traits in my mind are

1.) Financial = Cash = research = me taking over the world faster :D
2.) Philopsocial = more GP and starts Mysticism = all 3 early relgions on diff settings under Nobel :D
3.) Creative = +2 culture off the bat which means more land with less cities :D

All good. I useally use a mix of these 3 traits with my leaders

My personal favorites are agressive, financial, and industrious.

Blood, gold, and hammers. The world revolves arround these.

Phylos do not start with Misticism. As for me I like Expansive cuz I like slavehurry.

Industrial is pretty good. Never a extra wonder is bad. And this will add more GP too.
Also financial, and philosophical are good too.

The best bonus :
Starting coastal with food bonus water tile(s), a civ with fishing
as starting tech and build a workboat.

On a small duel map, creative is awsome. In a regular game Id still give creative props because its like having free stonehange, every new city can expand itself to max city tradius. Its great for fishing villages that you plant 2 spaces away from the fish.

For me, spiritual is essential for warmongering. I need my 3 civic changes per turn (mostly for rushing, then switching back), and maybe switch religions every turn so my theocrarcy always works. :)

Financial is really good too, and I can always make use of philosophical for great engineers/scientists.

I'm currently playing with Frederick (German). I must say that Creative + Philosophical is a very synergistic combination.

I would think expansive would be very valuable on harder difficulties where the city health bonus is less.

Financial Financial Financial. Any combination involving those three would be good. The other traits can be a lot of fun to use and develop strategies with, but when it comes to the "best" trait, financial easily outpaces every other one.

A bit OT for this thread and definitly not to bash your strategy (the game obviously allows it), but isn't multiple civic changing within one turn (and using benefits from the "intermediate" civic) an exploit? Sounds a bit strange for a turn-based strategy game...

I agree. Getting three gold from every river tile with a cottage early on instead of two gives a huge bonus early on. Also, you jump to 3 with just one cottage growth instead of two on non-river tiles. The early research boost puts you ahead in the tech race.

Industrious is solid as well, as building Pyramids can be very helpful early on. The Great Library coupled with the 3rd gov civic gives a serious research bonus, (+12 research from the two extra researchers) not to mention +3 happy in your biggest cities. (Which is huge early on as well)

I think the Chinese dude with both Industrious and Financial is far too good. Those two traits should be mutually exlusive in a future patch/expansion.

Creative + Industrious ( Ludovic ) or Creative + Financial ( Catherina the Great ) seems to be two strong combination ... ;)

Ludovic? Do you mean Louis XIV? Le Roi de Soleil...:king:

How so? This is a bit of a surprise. I'd have thought that philosophical civs have less need to claim land as they end up running lots of specialists instead of working tiles. What strategy are you using?

Industrial + Financial.

I'm a scienceaholic, and so being able to load up cottages in the Classical Age with lotsa workers, plus the income boost, has always put me at the top of the tech race!

Unfortunately, I don't think this combination exists.......time to get a moddin...

You must mean something different than what you're writing. The spiritual trait gives you no anarchy for changing civics, but as a trade-off you have to wait for 3 turns before the next revolution can take place.

Industrial & Financial exists, it's Qin Shi Huang of China. ;)

Industrial and Financial are my personal favourites, though I quite like spiritual and philosophical too. As for the others, while creative and expansive have their uses I think they're rather weaker than the first four I mentioned. Aggressive seems powerful, but to be honest I'm not much of a warmonger and only go to war when I have truly overwhelming forces anyway. Organized is the one trait that seems very underpowered, since it feels like a very weak version of financial.

The fact there's such a wide range of opinions seems to suggest the traits are quite well balanced.:)
