Best practice for uploading custom maps?

I have been struggling with this for a couple of days now, and I'm sure I'm making it more complex than in needs to be, but what would your advice be for these requirements:-

Basically I want to:
- Publish 2 x new maps to the online mod browser
- Also post direct links here

Additionally I would like to make some new (or rename) city states with some fixed start locations for key cities.

The rest of the resources are all hand placed on the map.

I've read and search the forum, and read a lot of the Kael guide, but I don't think what I'm trying is complex enough to warrant understanding that document?

I realise I could just put up the maps here, but only actual packaged mods go into the online browser... am I right? And I wouldnt be able to have the fixed city states?

I have tried starting a "new project" in Mod Buddy as a Map Pack, but, when I build and go to test it, it's showing up in the game mod list in red text "Invalid map file".

Also tried using the starter template posted here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=388779 - Thanks!) and set up a scenario in the World Builder, which looks a more promising approach... but I don't know.

I've imported my maps (so they are in the Solution Explorer as they were in the inbuilt "map pack" template), but, when I build and go to test it, this doesn't show up at all.

Is the way I'm trying overkill for what I want to do?

Is there another way of renaming the city states?

What is the best practice for maps and/or basic changes like renaming the city-states (no new content as such) to make it neat and tidy to upload?

Should I only do 1 map per mod 'package', or what are the benefits of a map pack?

Any advice, or code snippets to help me do this would be amazing! :)

Thanks ;)

You will find your map files in MyDocuments/MyGames/Sid Meier's Civ5/Maps. You can copy them from there and publish them anywhere online. For an example, post them here on CivFanatics. As for publishing them in the Mod Browser, I have no idea yet. I haven't gotten that far...

I too am struggling with renaming City States. I have all the cities on my map renamed accordingly, but they still show up as Oslo and Helsinki in-game, especially on the diplomacy screens associated with them. This is most disturbing, as it makes the game confusing too. I dunno how to solve it yet; probably by making my map scenario into a full-fledged mod, but I'm not interested in that yet.
