Best way to have same unit with different textures

I've just prepared 198 textures (the Actions-tab in Photoshop is wonderful :) ) and I've got 8 units I want to apply these textures on making 8 unique units for 18 civilizations.

I've imported all the units with the importer to remind myself what it does. Now I've got 8 unit-types and 8 unit-classes. The unit-type is linked to the art-assets so I was really thinking just making 18 copies of everything. The textures for the meshes for the different civilizations all have the same names as I assume the GR2-mesh files goes by the name.

Is there a better way? I assume the unit-class is really just good for civilization-overrides, like a unique-unit instead of a warrior. It doesn't seem like it'll actually reduce any code since the "class" is really the smallest part, basically the same as the type. Though I guess it's best practie if all units that share the mesh have the same class for when this becomes a working mod. Now I just set the units as free units by their unit-classes for each civilization.

Anyone know of a good tool for these sort of things? It'll just be so much work, anything like I set a key-word for all these files then just feed in a list of my 18 civilizations? Then it does all the work? :)
