Weird thing happened on this game I've been playing. I was dominating the game bigtime. Massive culture rolling out (over 100k total culture), happiness at extreme levels, tons of gold, and lots of military power. Russia was 3 turns away from building a Spaceship component, but other than that I saw nothing funny going on.

Bam, Russia invades out of the thin air. They took a small pop 6 city nestled next to their territory. Then the game states "You have suffered a humiliating loss!". I was thinking, "wow, WTH?". I rotely clicked through the replay and data, and got rang up as "Tokugawa the Magnificent" , which I think is the highest honor. Then on the screen where it shows highest scores it showed "Space Race - Lost".

Weirdness. If another civilization got to Alpha Centauri, wouldn't it say something like "Russians have made it to Alpha Centauri..you suck!!".

What gives? I'm enclosing the game file in case any of you guys wanna check it out.

I think you were playing with elimination on - lose a city and you lose the game.

No need for the save, just look at your victory conditions and check the elimination. As CKS mentioned.

Well, I've never lost to a Space Race, so I don't know what it would say. But in your save, China had 9 parts built, same as you, unless I was reading it wrong. And according to Civassist, Elimination was not a VC.

Elimination is not a VC it is a point you can tick like accelerated production and re-spawn AI

Well, I went back a couple autosaves (4 years I think). I didn't have the elimination selected from what I could tell. I did check and see that China was only 3 turns from completing a spacecraft component, so I assume they must've launched.

Anyway I bribed the other AI civs to join me in war against the chinese. By the next turn I spied in that chinese city from before and saw they had switched to Cavalry (hehe). A few turns later I launched my own ship and won the game.

I'll have to remember to turn off space race. Thanks for the assist everybody.

In Windows right-click on the file, choose send to, then choose archive. This way the windows compress the file in a new .zip file which is smaller.

I forgot to thank you for telling me how to format the file. Much appreciated.
