Well, thats just one problem anyway. I have the demo version of the game that i downloaded from fileplanet and i cant seem to get it to work. Whenever I start a game, all the terrain is black. Everything else shows up though. I have interface, I can see units, everything. Also, I cant seem to go below the 1028x whatever the other number is on resolution. I have a laptop with a NVidia GeForce4 440 Go graphics card with 64 Mb dedicated memory and 512MB of ram. I knew my comp would not run the game well, but i didn't expect it to not run at all. Any help people can give me woul be great, Thanks! Also, I have no idea what everyone is talking about when they say latest graphics drivers, I've looked before and have never seen any knew graphics drivers for my card.

My wife purchased the game tonight and attempted to play it on her Inspiron 1150 - I first tried newer video drivers, which didn't help, and found I had the same black terrain problem installing the game on my Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100. I found that installing the patch from this link solved the problem on both machines. I have no idea wether or not the patch installs against the demo; you might try it and see if a 28 meg download isn't a problem for you.

Just confirming for you that with patch 1.09, which there are many links to on civfanatics, the full version of the game runs without black terrain for many computers that experienced black terrain beforehand. I don't think the patch will work on the demo, but if you are unwilling to fork out any money until you know you like it I would be unsuprised if a version 1.09 demo is released. Still, try the patch just in case.
Thanks Guys. For the record I definately want to buy the game. I was trying the demo to see how it ran on my computer. I'll probly end up taking the risk and buying it cause I really want to play it. I hope game stores take returns if its already opened but won't work.
