Black terrain

I know this has been beat to death in other threads but i need a straightforward answer cause searching the forum has not yielded any definitive results. My computer is obviously cabable of displaying the terrain, and playing the game, cause 3d analyzer has made the terrain come up, but then other problems occur.
MY QUESTION is did they ever come up with an official, or heck, even an unofficial patch to fix the terrain issue. I have no cheshire, just the terrain...
I really wanna check out civ 4 but i've just been playing civ 3, which i'm happy with, but a new game can't hurt right. Can anyone give me the answers I seek?
I have downloaded the omega driver but i'm really skeptical as to whether it will work, and i don't believe i will be able to reinstall my current driver if it messes things up...no internet on my home computer. If I do uninstall my current driver and then install omega will i be able to get my driver back without having the cd or internet? would a system restore get it back?

I just change the res to a lower one then change it back. It works.

and by change res you mean... in the ini file? in game? then shut game down and change it back? or change it then change again before i start playing? specifics sir specifics lol

In the game. Just under options-->graphics, lower the res and turn it up again.
