Sorry for a thread which probably exists somewhere, but I didn't have time to search 10+ pages of search-results.

Is the only way for a bomber to become a veteran unit by construction in a city w/ an airport? Or surviving a intercepting fighter?

It seems a certain number of successful sorties ought to increase the bomber's effectiveness.

Has anyone had a bomber ascend to elite status? Is it possible?

My bombers got promoted from veteran to elite, but that's probably because I gave them the "lethal bombardment" property in the editor...

Yes, Without lethal bombardment the only way to get promoted is by shooting down a fighter intercepting you. I never built bombers without airport so yes, I've been getting elite bombers all the time.

Airport create veteran units, either bomber or fighter, i once got an elite jet fighter by shooting an interceptor, but i never had elite bomber. I am new to lethal bombard so i ll see.
