I recently bought a 4-deal of games consisting of Civ II (the one I wanted) and like 3others. I have a Windows 2000 but my grandmother has our old computer, the original computer I played Civ II on. I tried installing Civ II on my 2000 computer, but it keeps coming up with all these "cannot find SHELL.DLL errors" Ive tried everything, and cant bring the computer home from my grandmother because she is 90 and wants to do some lame 400 page full family tree before she dies (By "she" she meant "PenguinKommando would do it") so now if I ever see her she ropes me into typing her geanalogy reports. So I wanna know if I can get it to work on my computer....Please?( I cant tell my parents because they wil be pissed and say I was ripped off and wasted my 12 dollars, etc. andl leave the person on e-bay bad feedback, and the guy wasnt really trying to rip me off)

Check out the Tech Support forum. They have instructions on Win2000 installs. Also use Google to search for the exact error message you get - it will probably give you some links in CivFanatics and Apolyton.Net, chase them down and see what worked. I've not tried it on 2000 but I know others have mastered it. You may need to download an extra DLL to get it to work. Also make sure you have updated your Indeo video drivers.

I recently had this problem when I bought Civ II. Download it here.

Then drag the file into the Civ II folder C:\MPS\Civ II

I did that and it still says it cannot find shell.dll.
I even tried placing the file in the windows system folder.
The problem I have is not discussed in the Tech Support foum I dont think, what is though, is some video card error. I would really like to play it....
(Didnt mean to put that angry face there, sorry...Thanks for trying to help me.)

Be sure to put it in the System32 folder then. That's the system folder on Windows 2000.

(...) some video card error.

Some more details would be helpful. We can't mindread you know. So if you could mention the exact error messages, and when they occur. Not that that will guarantee that we can help...

Good luck with your grandma. :goodjob:

Oh, and next time try not using the all-caps screaming for help ASAP thing. You're not more important than everyone else here. We're all just fans of the game trying to help eachother.
