This has been suggested numerous times on this forum. I have made a mod component which may allow canals to work, however, I am on a Mac and as such cannot make the .modinfo file (without going through a long and tedious process, at least). I am also not sure that even with a modinfo file the mod would work, as my lua skills are very poor. I just want a team member to take a look at my code and try to find a way to make it work.

There is no canal tile improvement, only canal terrain, as that would really serve no purpose at this stage. If we can find a way to give it purpose, then it might be worth adding.

Other than that, if this does make it to the v4 release we will have to find a way to make canals strategically useful, perhaps by giving them a gpt of some sort, or giving rewards for making trade routes shorter. This may require the entire trade system to be revamped. The AI will also have to be taught how to use this.
