Can't get patch to load

Hi all,

I can't get the patch to install for 1.52 and I am currently at 1.09.

I have a Dell Dimensions mulitprocessor XPS Windows XP machine with two 2.80 Gig Pentium D processors and 1.0 of RAM with a NVIDIA GeForce 6800 PCI video card.

When I try to install the patch it says that you need a previous version of Civilization IV to be installed and then it exits out. I have a retail version of Civilization that I bought in Russia--it is a Russian or English version.

HEY MAN.

i was about ot ask the same tihng right now. lol, i hope someone responds because im having tthe same problem. ( we need that patch to play ONLINE!)

Hey i just searched for it and i know what was my problem. If you downloaded it from direct2drive you need to get the patch from their site.

I just tried removing and reinstalling Civ 4 but still won't install the 1.52 patch. I also updated my NVIDIA drivers for my GeForce 6800 but still will not take the patch.

If you followed Zydor's process in that other thread, verify you downloaded the retail patch (links under CivIV atop the forum pages) and not the D2D patch.

I have downloaded the retail patch three times and will not install. It keeps telling me that I do not have Civ4 installed and I do have it installed. In fact I spent several hours it playing it yesterday.

So you cleanly uninstalled it? There are issues with going from 1.00/1.09 to 1.52 sometimes.

I ran the uninstall and it said it removed it. Did I go through the registry and check for entries? No I did not but I received no errors or error messages running the uninstall. At the end of the uninstall I received a message that the game was not installed. I then reinstalled it but I still cannot install the new patch.

I did uninstall Civ according to the thread listed above by auldian. The problem is that I cannot edit the registry entries as described here:

* Edit the "InstallSource" and "RegOwner" entries as appropriate. (I replaced my information with asterisks.)

* Edit other entries as appropriate (such as paths that may be different on your system).

Who is the RegOwner? Where is the InstallSource--not it is not my DVD drive according to civ.reg file that has the registry entries in it.

He's indicating you should edit that information so it's specific to your rig. This would make the game "patchable" once more and appeared to work for him and some others. I recommend you select a key (keys are the left pane) before you make any alterations to the registry and select File > Export and save that key as a file somewhere on your computer. You can later right-click that file and "import" it to your registry if you need to undo your changes.

My uninstall key for Sid Meier's Civilization IV is "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{A8589680-35C1-4732-ACCA-09B78921ECE3}" so the specific Key name can vary. Search for Data=Sid Meier in Regedit until you find your corresponding Uninstall key. Adjust the key data (far right information) so it's consistent with your computer's drives, etc., or tweak the version number as Petek suggested here.

If you opt for a clean removal & reinstall instead:

• Run the uninstall from Control Panel > Add & Remove Programs.
• Run regedit.
• Remove all relevant keys after seaching for keys/values/data containing "Civ4", "Civ 4", "Civilization", "Sid Meier", and "Firaxis". (I only had the one Firaxis game on this rig so I was thorough.)
• Try to install/patch again.

Okay I got the patch to load--the new one 1.61. My problem now is that Civ doesn't see it. When I start civ I still am told I have to update it. I run the update and it runs fine but when I restart it is not there. Any ideas?

1.52 patch worked just fine. Well I will figure it out eventually, feels just so stupied that many users has to go trough alot just to patch the game.

starting to loose hope, I´ve been trying most of the fixes with no success. I cant understand why there has to be such a fuzz about installing this patch?

I think my problem come from the fact that I formated my HD partition and simply copied the civ4 map to another partition (D and the I never had a problem playing it.

The problem would perhaps be easy to fix my reeinstalling civ but since my installshield is corrupted and wount be fixed even with the earlier c: formation. Simply I cant install most things using installshield as an installer. (side note: But smaller files like patches and pokerclients workes fine).
