CD/DVD emulation software has been detected! Help! What is this???

Hello,
i just installed the civilization iv from DVD and when i try to start the game i get the following error message:
"CD/DVD emulation software has been detected. Please disable all CD/DVD emulation software and re-start the game"
I have all the system requirements (not minimun) and i don't run any other programs at the same time.
I don't understand, please help me.

This means that SafeDisk (the copy protection software used by Civ 4) has determined that you have some software installed on your computer that could be used to copy the game. This includes stuff like CloneCD, virtual drives and sometimes even Nero.

True usualy this is daemon tools, anydvd and/or alcohol180%. While theortticaly true that you could use a riped copy of a Game with these, they come in quite handy when you play on a laptop (on the go so to say) or just plain don't like to juggle disks. I personaly thik this is bogus , people who wish to pirate will find a way to do so, while people like me are just bothered by the fact that the disks get all scuffed up if you lug them around... rant rant scoff scoff glare

So if you aren't shure if you're running those, open the task manager and have a look. (that would be Ctrl + Alt + Del).

But, what can i do now? Do i have to remove all these programs? like nero, alcohol, clone dvd in order to play the civilization? That's crazy!

no you don't have to remove them from your computer, you just have to make shure they aren't running in the backround since they tend to be in your auto start check the programs for options to not have them do that, or type "msconfig" in the run dialog and change the startup options.

If that doesn't work try the task manager thing. If all else fails try a nocd patch, but be aware this isn't supported by anyone and does hinder you in patching the game...
why don'T you try the above and post your results.

Use the utility CureRom. Search google for it. Be sure to use the latest version which has the anti-blacklist feature.
