What is the practical difference between a ceasefire and a peace treaty (in civ, not in real life)? I've looked through the manual for answer, but can't really find one.

Pretty sure a cease fire cancels the declaration of war while a peace treaty cancels the declaration of war and prevents you from declaring war for another 10 turns.

Peace? Pffft!!!

I've never ended a war any way but total victory. I don't trust the AI to uphold their end especially Gandhi.

Correct, Eric. A cease-fire just "pauses" the war, and then it can start back up again any time either party would like to.

Cease-Fire to prevent an impending stack of doom from closing in on your city. Regroup, then attack again in a turn or two.

Peace treaty locks you into no attacks for ten turns.

Gotcha.

I will sue for a Peace Treaty for various reasons, not the least of which is getting techs I need before the civ who has them is no longer there to be coerced ;)

Too bad you can't sue for a ceasefire.

I had Monty declare war then on that same time offer a ceasefire in return for some techs. Be nice if I could pointy stick research.

Really? I thought that as soon as you request techs, gold, or anything else, you had to go for a Peace Treaty.

^^^Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's in the coding. Also, they can't contact you (and you can't contact them) for 10 turns after a declaration of war. Sounds like you have a bit of a glitch there CivDude
