Could somebody explain how are city graphics in CivIV ? I mean :
- file type
- cultural groups ?
..

I'm affraid you're right :( What I would like is a description of city graphics files ( type, number, names,...) from someone who allready has the game.

:bump: Anything new ?

I had a look on your general modding thread, but there's no information yet about cities.

Will we be able to mod different culture groups city graphics into the game? This was one of the biggest graphics flaws, along with .pcx files of Civ 3.

It took me a while to figure everything out, but here it is:
The buildings use the same kind of models as the units, and the same skins. That means that while we can't make new models yet, we can reskin the buildings just as easily. After you extract art0.fpk with the utility that Firaxis released, you can use a dds converter (http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/file/DDS_Converter;29412) to turn the textures into bmps and back.

Oh, this is disappointing. We can just change the texture, not the structure of the building !?

What about cultural groups ? Is it possible to have indian and italian cities look different ? If not, CivIV is just pointless to me.

from my findings it looks likely you can change the model of the building...but how to do that is unclear to me at this point...

i thought it came with a building randomizer? that could help the skin issue. but there isstill the problem with civ-specific citystyles. we (martin guhmann especially) had to add more styles to ctp2 (and even added the ability to keep that style when its conquered) and that code is in c++ so maybe some of the work has already been done...

this is such a downer though
