City Number Meaning

Does anyone know if the size number of the cities means something? Is 1 something like 1,000 people or something and so on? Late game cities would be very small then and early game cities would be really big if 1 were to be 1 million people

I think the very first Civilization - back in the 1980s - one pop meant one thousand people. More recently and in Civ 6, there is no such connection made. I think the easiest thing is to think of it as an abstract.

In Civ5 there was a demographics screen that showed the real population. The formula is expotential, you can find on the net. See here for some real data:

In Civ6 there is no demographics screen, so there is no official way to confirm what real population is supposed to be.
You can just go along with Civ5 model if it suits you.
