City population sizes in history from neolithic settlements up to 1875 AD

This source is interesting for any Civilization fanatic, for sure. Just for self-education. Yet I don't think in-game scenarios and worldmaps should try to approximate those numbers. I think, each Civilization game has built-in mechanics which are much, much simpler than their real-world equivalents, because real world stuff is, and always was, so darn complex that we'd go insane if anyone would make a game where we'd be expected to coordinate and direct all such stuff. I think it's good Civilization games have such things massively simplified - it makes it playable as a game. And I think, those hugely simplified in-game rules and cause-consequence effects - result in mighty different population dynamics than what it was in real world. And that difference - is good for gameplay. Useful.

IOW, I think it'd only break the game - to an extent - if anyone would try to make everything "historically accurate". :nono:
