Civ 5 running incredibly slowly

For some reason since yesterday my Civ V has been running stupidly slowly, even in the menus. In game I'm getting about 8fps and I'm getting 10fps in the main menu Prior to this it was working fine. Also the music crackles slightly on the main menu. All other games are working fine.

The game intro/menu loads a bit faster than before, but game loading and unit movement etc... are also running very slowly.

My machines a AMD Phenom X4 945, Radeon 5770HD, 4GB RAM on Win 7 64bit.

Any ideas?

Thought I'd post an update to this in case its of any help to anyone else as I have finally figured out the issue and fixed it after reinstalling civ v was no help.

It turned out to be down to the Philips AMBX software on my pc (I have those ambient light things...) where after my previous (working game) of civ v I'd activated it for civ v and then forgotten all about it... It hasn't caused any issues like this before for any other games (inc. civ iv) but it makes a right mess of civ v!

On another note I appear to have a corrupt savegame that windows says doesn't exist but I can still see it and can't delete it... oh well can't win them all I guess....
