After a long hiatus from anything Civ related, I have tried to install my copy of Civ IV complete on my fairly new computer. My system specs are significantly higher than Civ IV ever needed so there should be no issue. However, the second I load it up, I get the error message I used to get on my 10 year old computer:

Your machine is below recommended specifications...

It is frustrating because Civ V is so horrendously bad and I really want to play a good Civ game. I have tried running the setup program as administrator and installing to a non protected directory as well as running in XP compatibility to no avail. I haven't actually started a game after getting this error message because I have no desire to return to the days of having to play small and tiny maps. My 5 year old computer is disassembled so that isn't an option either.

You can ignore it. It usually means that your processor is too new for Civ 4 to recognise. If you get fed up with the warning you can turn it off in the .ini file. Look for the line something like HideMinSpecWarning = 0 and change the 0 to 1 (or vice versa if it is already 1 as I'm doing this from memory and may have it the wrong way round).

I've got the same problem since I got infected by a virus a few weeks ago. I did a fresh install but I still have the problem. Other than disabling the message, is there anything else that might be causing it? Before the virus, I did not get the message.
