I am a long time fan of Civ, having started with Civ I in DOS. As a gift my family bought me the Chronicles of Civilization (http://www.civilization.com/chronicles/) which would have been great if I still owned a PC. I upgraded to a Mac about 2 years ago.

I have tried using wine/crossover (http://www.codeweavers.com/) and it crashes, VirtualBox (http://www.virtualbox.org/) is too slow for windows emulation, and I'm not willing to dual boot. Is there a way to register my game with Steam so that I can install and play Civ 4 through Steam on my Mac?

My wife just bought Civ 4 The Complete Edition (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/4323/) on Steam. If I were to borrow a laptop, could my retail version play with her steam version?

Welcome to CFC! :band:

Unfortunately you can't register a disc version on steam, so you're stuck with your PC disc version or rebuy on steam.

I'm not a Mac person, so can't really help getting it running on your mac, you may get more help if you ask in the Mac section of this forum

The good news is though, your disc version should play with your wife's steam version. I won't say without problem as that would be tempting fate, but it shouldn't make a difference that one is from disc, the other from steam.

I'd contacted 2kGames about registering a retail game with steam and they referred me to Aspyr who referred me to Valve. I decided that the community would probably know more than the tech support. Thanks.

I gave up on getting my PC version to run on the Mac and bought on Steam. Now to play a few games - I'm a little rusty.

Again, thanks for your assistance.
