Once again I´m the one to open the results thread. ;)

And here they are: the results for the 14th GOTM for Civ2. The winners are:
1: Dimitris (His first gold medal.)
2: Lucky
3: Chofritz

The blue star, the award for highest score, went to NOL. Both Chofritz and Smash got the green star (fastest finish) for conquering the world at 2200 BC, which is after 36 turns! They did this by building no city at all! It's very interesting - I don't know how and why it works, but it's certainly worth an award. As I said, this also gave Chofritz a bronze medal, even while he only had 73 points. :D (Smash had 28.)

Also, we had 36 submissions! That's just as much as we had before Civ3 was out. Let's hope the downfall was indeed temporarily and this wasn't a sporadic high amount of submissions.

GREAT! A silver medal, just what I was hoping for! :yeah:

I find it really astonishing how fast some people can finish such a game. 2200BC is absolutely awesome, but also a very interesting display of a new strategy! :goodjob:

And it´s really nice to see that thanks to our scoring formula, milking is not the only way to gain awards.

Only one critical comment, Matrix:
You forgot to change my green star into the rightfully owned blue star in the HOF. I still have it but it should be 2 blue stars instead. I´m still trying to find a way to get a real green star.
That should be corrected, thanks!
:D

Congratulations.
Me myself submitted for the first time and finnished 4th. I never thought would get that high, but I guess conquest pays off in gotm. I think I will play similar in gotm 15. :)

When I think the game through, I didn't use some tactics that I could have. I could have found the english much sooner I think, but I would never manage to kill all before 2200 BC. Wow! That's pretty amazing.

...climbing the ladder......I can see a medal, just gotta climb a bit harder....maybe next GotM, or the one after that.......guess I'm like Gerard van Velde (speedskater), be good, never win........but then :D I'm satisfied with a bronze medal, even with a star of some kind....6th in the Global Ranking, wanna get to that 5th place...

I can imagine, willem. ;) After Smash you've played most GOTM's: 10. So it's time to get at least one medal...

And since you are reading the forum...read your f*cking email!!
Het is al maandag en morgen wou ik je ontmoeten...

At last... I finished within the top 10.. I can stop playing now...only joking...
Chofritz & Smash... I thought my 1800BC was unbeatable for a green medal but never thought of not building a city at all.. Well done guys.. I'll keep trying.

Matrix.. How about a medal for lowest score (conquest or spaceship). Has anyone else thought of this.. If not then can I nominate the colour - Orange

I think both Matrix and I agree that orange wouldn't be the appropriate colour........ Make it black if it should excist, or some other color........not orange.

That or 'Barbie' Pink.....;)

I've just had a look at the global rankings and it appears that I am 7th:) :) .. Question is how???.. 9th has been my highest position to date... Not complaining mind you....

Damn!

I mean I thought I'd be lower half but not quite so completely out of the reckoning. Clearly got a lot to learn. Off I go to review those spoiler talks before (attempting to ) kick ass on game 15:(

Ehm,
I think that the spoiler talks are for those who have played the game first and then wanted to chat about it.. Not as a quick preview on what strategy works best..Hence the reason for calling it 'Spoilers'. Far more useful is looking at some of the saved games or just apply some of the tips found in the War Academy...

The main thing is that you still enjoy playing it

:)

Well my strategy was to find a high productive special for my capital and then build the hanging gardens asap. And as you can see in my save I found some oil, ;) 4 sheilds you know, :) But the most important thing was when I got that none unit in the beginning, that's really when I decided to go with this strategy...

;) Ooops, I can see how you read that into my reply, as I wasn't very clear. What I meant was....
Since GOTM14 and GOTM15 are very similar (small map, King level, not the full cast of opponents) it seemed like a good idea to take a look back at the GOTM14 spoilers in some detail before trying 15. So I did. Mind you, I still can't get the hang of this hut pattern thing!
