Hello,
So i got my Civ 4 and installed it on Saturday. After about 5 minutes in the tutorial the game locked up. So I rebooted and installed Nvidia driver 81.85 (latest and greatest) then started to play again. This time it took about 10 minutes and locked up. So I then let it set to see if it would unlock. So after about 5 - 10 minutes of locked up Civ, my computer automatically rebooted. Then all hell broke lose.
After seeing the windows XP logo the system would blue screen with a STOP error message. So I researched the error and found out I was just out of luck. I tried the last known good config and safe mode, all yielding the same result.
So next I decided to just repair my OS, no biggie. Well only about 50% of windows working, I decided to reload by formatting C and just starting over.
So there I was new install of windows, fresh Nvidia drivers. All updates.
This brings us to tonight, and I decided to take a gamble and try again. I install without problems. Start playing the game, after disabling autosaves and having Civ run in a windows instead of full screen. And once again after about 10 minutes of play the game locks, I let it set for about 5 minutes and then it reboots and welcome back to the blue screen of death.
So am on my 2nd fresh copy of windows in the last 3 days.
Here are my system stats
Windows XP SP2
AMD 3400 64 Bit
1 GIG mem
GeForce 5700 256 meg ram
SATA HDD and DVD Burner
all in a Shuttle small case, using the nForce chipset.
So I called tech support, and of course I am the first person who is getting blue screens and corrupt OS, post Civ 4. Once I am back up and going they want me to email my Direct X Diag text file to them, ok done. Now am waiting.
I post this for a few reason;
1. I need to vent.
2. To see if anyone else has had this problem(s)
3. To see if anyone has ideas?
Tech support did want me to use MSCONFIG and make sure no other programs were/are running when I try to run Civ 4. My 3 points to support were/are
1. My computer is way more powerful then to get bogged down by some startup apps.
2. It's a CLEAN load of WINDOWS
3. I am in IT, have been for 7 years, so don't try to pawn that crap answer off on me.
Thanks in advance for anyone who responds.
If you respond because you have the same issue, I feel your pain.
