Morning. I've been lurking and finally decided to register. I hope this hasn't been discussed elsewhere; I searched but couldn't find anything.
I've been thinking recently with Civ4 that it would be nice if there was some sort of included information dæmon which publishes current, in-game statistics. I imagine a simple webserver which would publish standardized XML.
http://x.x.x.x:someport/diplomacy would pull up current diplomatic information or /diplomacy/Lincoln would give stats for the American civilization.
/cities would give a list of the cities and /cities/Atlanta would pull up data about the selected city.
With this enabled anyone could make a decent viewer which could be run on other machines, laptops, netbooks or (this would look amazing) the iPad. It would be nice to be able to scroll through the tech-tree or to be able to keep a closer eye on your cities' production. Dotmaps could be bonehead easy, or even automated if tile data is exported. Perhaps the best part would be that if it's open someone could develop ways of viewing the data that no one has currently considered.
Given my history this idea has either already been implemented and I don't know about it, or it has already been discarded for being stupid. Both seem likely.
