Civ2 is also easy to mod.
Civ2 in my mind is clearly the best computer game, it is just such a classic. Me personally I cannot see half-life withstanding another 5 year.
Yes, civ2 is very easy to mod, but not even close to the extent that half-life is. The mods in civ2 are more like scienarios, where you play in some sitution with slightly modified rules and units. Half-life has total conversions, meaning it changes the game in every possible way.
Check out these mods for a second and compare them to the civ2 mods
mechmod - Check this one out. It's utterly amazing as to how much crap they've changed
esf - eh, this is a dbz mod. i know, i know, dbz sucks, but they managed to get half-life to play like dbz. that says something
half-life rally - racing game. i put that link there because the website doesn't have any pictures
vampire slayer - you hunt vampires or play as a vampire trying to kill humans..
The specialists - matrix mod
Battlegrounds - revolutionary war mod
TheTrenches ww1 mod
And I could easily go on.
Now compare those screenshots to the original half-life. Most of them changed so much content its rediculous. Like mechmod for instance, changed the game to a game where your in control of huge robots flying around shooting missles, machine guns, and you have a lightsaber like weapon that makes the melee resemble jediknight 2/3. It's rediculous. it's things like that that make half-life better then civ2. No matter how good civ2 is, its always going to be civ2. Half-life on the other hand, is not only awesome unmodded, but has so many conversions like that one that you'll never get bored of it.
I can see half-life lasting another 5 years. It's got great gameplay, great mods, ok graphics and can run very well on crappy computers.
Anyway, I think i'll stop my rant for now.
